HOW TO REVIVE DEAD 6V, 12V BATTERIES THAT WON’T CHARGE

This video is going over step by step how to revive a dead battery that wont charge using the provided charger.
Kids ride on toys usually have sealed lead acid batteries (SLA)

6 volt and 12 volt batteries can both be done using this method, just match the voltage of the battery you are reviving.
6 volts to 6 volts and 12 volts to 12 volts.

Smart chargers have built in programmes that refuse to charge batteries with voltage that’s too low, so a little bit of a hack to trick the charger into playing ball is needed.

If this helps in any way, please consider a thumbs up or leave a comment.

Thanks for stopping in and be sure to check my playlists, I have something for everyone, budget tool reviews, homemade weaponry, 3d printing, and lots more.

Do not attempt to try this at home, unless you are aware of the necessary precautions that need to be taken.

very hazardous chemicals and dangerous reactions.

  1. I have revived an assumed 5 year old dead 12V, 50A SLA battery. It was charging to over 12.7V but within minutes quickly dropped to around 9.5V after load applied. Found 1 cell was literally "dried", in all top up all the cells with about 270 ml of distilled water. My intelligent charger took over 40 hours to recondition the battery, I had apply under 2 amps current initially but after 24 hours there were not much progress so I apply maximum of 10 amps current. It did the trick and fully charged the battery to steady 12.75V, applied a 10W load and let it drain for 2.5 hours. Repeat charge with 2 amps current for 4 hours. Now appears the battery is as good as new. I tried the good batttery to bad battery method, was not much of difference in raising the voltage. During the conditoning stage of battery by charge, the output voltage from charger was between 16 to 18VDC. The video really help.

  2. Awesome vid. Think of all the batteries you're saving from going to the dump by posting this… good on ya, sir.

  3. Thank you… i was 1 click away from buying a new one.
Couldnt get charged. i used a second battery for 30 minutes to get the faulty back to 11v and now the charger is working.
    You saved me 70 euro.

  4. Just curious; what about connecting a newer more healthy battery in parallel with the older battery being revived as a method of tricking the smart charger?

  5. Man this British account is brutal for foreign speakers like myself. 😂 Now I'm gonna inject a botl' o' waha' in my battery.

  6. Hey I did everything exactly as mentioned but the battery is not maintaining the charge. Does that mean it's bad and I need to discard it?

  7. My 12 volt batteries are for a Pride mobility scooter. I can’t figure out how to get them open! There’s a rectangular cap on the top but it doesn’t want to come off. Please respond if anybody can help!

  8. I was actually looking for a way to revive my old batteries awhile back and now I came across your video. Awesome explanation on what to do my friend. Thanks for sharing.

  9. Thank you that was a great video. I have a Power Wheels Fisher-Price 12 volt battery. Have you done one of those? The physical configuration is very different. I wonder if you have any suggestions. Thanks again and best wishes

  10. Cheers that was very informative, I'm trying to revive 4 12v 20amph lead acid gel batteries because they are horrendously expensive. My couple of smart chargers didn't do a thing and now I know why. I got myself one of them little pulse chargers but don't hold out much hope. I'll check your channel just in case you have some tips, most of the American tubers just want to sell stuff with affiliate links and don't really explain it properly.

  11. Is there ever a case where you would need to add battery acid into the cells along with distilled water? Would that help in any way? I've read conflicting things about this online – most people say to never top up with any acid but I've seen a video where it's done

  12. Of the many videos watched, this one logically explains how to safely revive, and HOW/WHY it works. Brilliant. Simple and methodic. 👏🏻💛

  13. Great and clear video – thank-you. My 12v 7amp battery is currently showing 1v and once topped up, I was wondering if I could attach it to my car battery instead of a Jump start kit/booster pack to raise the voltage so my (Halfords) 4amp smart charger will see it? Thanks

  14. Hey I tried this trick but after the jump, my battery rapidly drops voltage. Does that mean the battery is done for or is there anything else I can do? Appreciate the video.

  15. Getting it to resume charging v again does not mean it us restored. Once battery lead plates sulfate they will not hold and discharge the original amount of watt hours. This means the amount of work it will do is greatly reduced. This may somewhat extend the life of a battery in low demand applications. But it is no miracle restoration.

  16. Don’t use distilled water. Throw out the whole thing and replace with sulphuric acid. It’s cheap and battery places sell em.
I had a motorcycle battery that couldn’t hold a charge above 6volts, and would lose it under load quite easily. I replaced cells with water and it did up to 7.
But It wasn’t enough to start the generator so I said fuck it. I just safely got rid of the liquid inside and put in the diluted battery electrolyte that has like 13% acid.
I didn’t even charge it after completing, and I checked it’s volts and got easily 10 volts under load. Later on I’m gonna slow charge it back up with the car battery charger.
Then run the generator and see how well it all goes.

Please note, don’t mess with acids and pretty much anything you don’t understand. Use safety glasses and rubber or plastic gloves. Work outside on a stably level surface. Use a syringe without the needle when pouring. It make it easier to prevent mishaps. Using a funnel is honestly not really good.
Also, if the acid gets on your skin and burns, neutralise it with Baking soda or baking power mixed with a little of water to make it a little more loosely than a paste.

    Stay safe.

  17. Hello need help asap
So i was able to revive one of my 2 SLA battery (12v 150ah). The other has a problem because one of the 6 cells inside is reading 0.2v but the other 5 reads 2.1v. It wont continue charging because the other cells already reached max voltage.
    How do i fix this?
